Walmart Marketplace image requirements
Walmart publishes exact numbers for its product images: background value, pixel size, ratio, format and file size. These are the requirements from Walmart Marketplace Learn.
The rules
Seamless white main image
"Main images should feature items on a seamless white background": "Seamless white (255/255/255 RGB)".
Recommended 2200 x 2200 pixels
"Pixel Dimensions: 2200px x 2200px".
Minimum 1500 x 1500 for zoom
"Minimum Pixel Dimensions for Zoom: 1500px x 1500px".
Square 1:1
"Aspect Ratio: 1:1 (Square)".
File formats
"File Format: JPEG, JPG, PNG, BMP (GIF images aren't permitted)".
RGB, 8-bit
"Color Format: RGB" and "Bit Depth: 8 bits per pixel".
5 MB or less
"File Size: 5MB or less".
Crop close, do not upscale
Crop the product close to the frame, and do not upscale small images.
No watermarks, seller name or logo
Main images must not include watermarks, your name or your logo.
No extras, claims or other retailers
No accessories that are not included, too many props, claims or promotional language, Walmart or other retailer logos or names, or non-English text.
At least four images
"We recommend that you upload a minimum of four images for each listing."
Only Walmart's placeholder
"If images are not yet available for your item, use only this designated Walmart placeholder image." "Your item won't be published until you've replaced the placeholder image with an actual product image."
No out-of-stock images or duplicates
Do not upload out-of-stock images or duplicate images.
AI images must be truthful
"Images generated by artificial intelligence must be truthful, accurate and not misleading."
What this means in practice
Walmart's main image is a familiar recipe with bigger numbers: seamless white at exactly 255/255/255, square, and ideally 2200 x 2200 pixels, with 1500 x 1500 as the floor for zoom. Crop the product close to the frame, and if your source photo is smaller than 1500 pixels, reshoot rather than upscale; Walmart asks you not to enlarge small images.
Files must be JPEG, PNG or BMP in 8-bit RGB and 5 MB or less; GIF is not accepted. A 2200 square JPEG at high quality fits comfortably. Swatch images, where a listing uses them, are 100 x 100 pixels, and larger items may be shown in the setting a buyer would expect rather than on white.
Walmart is one of the few marketplaces that addresses AI directly: generated images "must be truthful, accurate and not misleading". Run your own photo through PicBarn's pure-white main image tab for the main image and use scenes as gallery images, checking that the product in each one matches the item you ship.
