Dress product photos: length, fit and movement on a model
A dress is bought on length, neckline and how the fabric falls, and every one of those depends on a body. The gallery needs full-length model shots from more than one side, with the colour kept true across all of them.
The gallery this category needs
- 1
Your own photo of the dress on a standing model on pure white, full length, front view
Amazon requires adult apparel on a standing model, and full length shows the hem, which is the first fit question.
- 2
Back and side views on the same model
Zips, open backs and how the skirt falls from the side are invisible from the front.
- 3
Movement shot: walking or turning
Drape and swing are why buyers choose one dress over another, and stills hide them.
- 4
Fabric and detail close-up: print, lace, buttons or lining
Shows quality and opacity, which buyers cannot judge from a full-length frame.
- 5
Size guide with your own measurements and the model's height and size
Length depends on height, and stating the model's size helps buyers translate the photo to themselves.
- 6
Occasion scene: outdoor, café or event
Helps buyers picture where they will wear it, which matters for occasion dresses.
Scenes that fit
Platform rules that bite here
Amazon
Adult apparel must be on a standing model in the main image, with no mannequins of any kind, including hangers. A seated or reclining pose does not meet the rule.
Amazon
Photorealistic AI-generated models require the contains-synthetic-performer keyword in IPTC/XMP metadata before upload.
TikTok Shop
AIGC must not change the product's size, colour, shape or features, so an AI model must not shorten the hem or tighten the fit.
Etsy
Handmade and vintage dresses need at least one real, unedited photo of the actual item, and AI must not hide damage on vintage pieces.
What gets this category rejected or ignored
- AI try-on that changes the length, slit or neckline of the dress.
- Main images cropped at the knee so the hem is not visible.
- A mannequin or dress form as the Amazon main image.
- Prints that warp or repeat unnaturally on a generated model.
- No model height or size, so buyers cannot judge length.
Questions
Can I photograph a dress on a dress form?
Not for the Amazon main image, which bans mannequins of any kind for adult apparel. A dress form shot can be a later gallery image, or put the dress on a real or AI model.
Does an AI model keep the dress accurate?
It should, but check length, neckline and print against the real garment before uploading. TikTok's AIGC rules prohibit changing size, shape or features.
How many model shots does a dress need?
At least front, back and side, plus one in motion. Use the same model throughout so buyers can compare views.
Do I need to tag AI models?
On Amazon, yes for photorealistic AI people: add contains-synthetic-performer to the image metadata. TikTok Shop expects significant AI use to be disclosed.
