Amazon A+ Content image requirements and module sizes

A+ Content has its own file rules, its own image sizes and a longer list of banned claims than the product gallery. Here they are from Amazon's A+ guidelines and the A+ module specification.

The rules

Required, recommended and banned, in the platform's own words.
  • File types and colour space

JPG, BMP or PNG, in the RGB colour space only. "CYMK colorspace is not supported."

  • Under 2 MB per file

"Individual files must remain under 2 MB."

  • At least 72 dpi

"Resolution should be at least 72 dpi."

  • No animated images

"The use of animated images (for example, GIF) is prohibited." HTML is not allowed either.

  • Basic A+ image size

Basic A+ images are 970 x 300 pixels. Basic A+ allows up to 5 modules.

  • Premium A+ image size

Premium A+ images are 1464 x 600 pixels. Premium A+ allows up to 7 modules.

  • Premium full-width modules: 1464 x 600 desktop, 600 x 450 mobile

Minimums in the A+ Premium module specification: full background image, full background text, image carousel, navigation carousel, regimen carousel and hotspot image modules need at least 1464 x 600 pixels for desktop and 600 x 450 pixels for mobile.

  • Premium column and comparison modules

    Minimums in the same specification: premium image and text 800 x 600; dual image and text 650 x 350 per column; four-column images and three-column comparison 300 x 225; comparison carousel 488 x 700 desktop; comparison scroller 200 x 225.

  • No watermarks, QR codes or hyperlinks

No watermarks, QR codes or hyperlinks in A+ images, and no external links, contact details or personal information.

  • No promotions, prices, shipping or guarantees

No time-sensitive content, promotional language or prices, shipping details, or warranty and guarantee information. "Guarantee information, including references to off-Amazon return or refund policies, is strictly forbidden in A+ Content."

  • No competitor comparisons

Do not compare your product with competitors' products in A+ Content.

  • Readable, sharp images

"The use of blurry or low quality images and images with watermarks or small text that is unreadable when shown on mobile devices is not allowed."

  • Unique to A+

"Images and text must be unique to A+." Duplicating your gallery images is on the list of don'ts.

  • Awards, certifications and eco claims

"Do not mention awards received more than 2 years ago"; certification claims must be substantiated; "eco-friendly", "biodegradable" and "compostable", "including their symbols, are not allowed either in text or in images."

What this means in practice

A+ is a different canvas from the gallery. Basic modules are wide strips, 970 x 300 pixels or about 3.2 to 1, and Premium modules are 1464 x 600 or about 2.4 to 1, with a separate 600 x 450 image for mobile on the full-width modules. Plan each module from its size first and the photo second: a square product shot dropped into a banner leaves either a tiny product or a lot of empty white.

Keep files RGB JPG or PNG and under 2 MB each, which at 1464 x 600 means a sensibly compressed JPEG rather than a full-quality PNG. Read every text overlay on a phone before you submit: small text that is unreadable on mobile is one of the listed reasons for rejection.

Most A+ rejections are about claims rather than pixels. Awards need a date and an organisation and must be under 2 years old, certification claims need the body or study and year, "eco-friendly" style words and their symbols are out entirely, and anything about guarantees, prices, shipping or competitors will be sent back. Review can take up to 7 business days, so a rejection costs a week.

PicBarn makes gallery images, not A+ banners, and A+ asks for images unique to A+, so use a PicBarn scene as raw material for a module rather than reusing the gallery file; if a module shows a photorealistic generated model, tick the "AI-generated people" box in the A+ asset upload.

Questions

What size is a Basic A+ image?

970 x 300 pixels, in RGB JPG or PNG, under 2 MB, at 72 dpi or more. Basic A+ allows up to 5 modules.

What size is a Premium A+ image?

1464 x 600 pixels for the full-width modules, with a 600 x 450 pixel image for mobile. Smaller Premium modules have their own minimums, for example 650 x 350 per column in the dual image and text module and 300 x 225 in four-column and comparison modules.

Can I reuse my gallery images in A+ Content?

Amazon says images and text must be unique to A+, and duplicate gallery images are on its list of don'ts. Crop, re-compose or reshoot for the module instead.

How long does A+ Content approval take?

Amazon says review can take up to 7 business days. Check claims, awards and text size before submitting so you are not waiting a second week.
