TikTok Shop rules for AI-generated product images

TikTok Shop allows AI-generated listing images, on one condition: they must accurately represent the real product. These are the AIGC rules from TikTok Shop Academy and TikTok's AI content policy.

The rules

Required, recommended and banned, in the platform's own words.
  • AIGC must represent the real product

AI-generated content is allowed in listing images when it accurately represents the real product.

  • Do not change the product

AIGC must not change the product's size, colour, shape or features.

  • No false scale

AIGC must not show the product at a false scale.

  • The product stays the main subject

Do not replace the product with people, animals or accessories as the main subject of the image.

  • Flat products stay flat

Flat or printed products are not shown as 3D.

  • No effects that suggest features

No glow, motion or other effects suggesting functionality the product does not have.

  • No implied bundles

AIGC must not imply bundles or quantities the buyer does not receive.

  • Disclose significant AI use

Significant use of AI is disclosed, with on-screen text, a watermark, a sticker or the AI-generated content toggle.

  • No false disclosure

Disclosing content falsely is itself a violation.

  • No impersonation or fake results

No AI impersonation of real people, no fake results and no fake doctors.

  • Label realistic scenes and people

Creators must label AI-generated content that shows realistic-appearing scenes or people; TikTok's own AI effects are labelled automatically.

  • Content Credentials can trigger a label

TikTok uses Content Credentials (C2PA) to label AI-generated content made on other platforms automatically.

  • Main image: no renderings

The listing policy does not allow placeholders or digital renderings, and the main image is a front physical view on pure white.

What this means in practice

TikTok's line is accuracy, not method. The test for any AI image is whether a buyer holding the product would recognise every detail: the same colour, the same proportions, the same parts, at the same size against the props around it. A generated kitchen behind a real mug passes; a mug that has grown a handle, changed shade or looks twice its size next to a plate does not.

People and pets are allowed around the product but not instead of it. A try-on image where the garment is the clear subject fits; a lifestyle shot where a model's face fills the frame and the product is a detail does not. Flat prints such as posters, stickers and fabric must stay flat, and glows or motion lines that suggest a feature the product lacks are out.

The two TikTok pages do not spell out how to disclose inside a product gallery. The main image cannot carry added text or watermarks, so do not stamp "AI" on it; use the AI-generated toggle where the upload offers one, keep any on-image disclosure to gallery images, and expect files with Content Credentials to be labelled automatically.

PicBarn scenes start from your own product photo and generate the setting around it, which is the kind of AIGC the listing page allows; they are gallery images, and your real photo stays in slot 1 of the gallery pack.

Questions

Are AI-generated images allowed on TikTok Shop?

Yes, when they accurately represent the real product. They must not change its size, colour, shape or features, show a false scale, imply bundles or add effects that suggest functions it does not have.

Do I have to label AI images on TikTok Shop?

TikTok asks for significant AI use to be disclosed, through on-screen text, a sticker or watermark, or the AI-generated toggle, and requires realistic-looking AI scenes and people to be labelled. Content with Content Credentials can be labelled automatically.

Can an AI-generated model wear my product in a listing image?

Yes, as long as the product remains the main subject and looks exactly as it does in real life. Replacing the product with a person as the main subject is not allowed.

Can the TikTok Shop main image be AI-generated?

The main image must be a front physical view of the product on pure white, and digital renderings are not allowed. A real photo with the background made pure white is the safe main image; AI scenes belong in the gallery.
