TikTok Shop product image requirements

TikTok Shop's listing policy sets a strict main image and a 9-image square gallery, and its listing quality tiers reward five or more good images. These are the rules from TikTok Shop Academy.

The rules

Required, recommended and banned, in the platform's own words.
  • Main image: front view on pure white

The main image shows a front physical view of the product on a pure white background.

  • Nothing added to the main image

No added logos, text, borders, watermarks or graphics on the main image.

  • No placeholders or digital renderings

Placeholder images and digital renderings are not allowed.

  • Only what the customer receives

Images show only what the customer receives.

  • Up to 9 square images

Up to 9 images, in a square 1:1 ratio.

  • At least 600 x 600 pixels

Images are at least 600 x 600 pixels; the listing quality page says "Your main PDP image should have a resolution > 600x600 pixels."

  • Colour images

Product images must be in colour.

  • No duplicate angles

Do not upload duplicate angles of the same view.

  • No child models for children's swimwear and underwear

Children's swimwear and underwear are shown flat, with no child models.

  • Five or more images for a Good listing

"You need to provide five or more images of the main product", in high resolution, to reach the Good quality tier.

  • No promotion stickers

"Don't add any marketing or promotion stickers." "Avoid watermarks, borders, or promotional text."

  • Photograph each colour

"Avoid using a single base photo with only color/clothing changes applied through editing software."

  • White background recommended

"We recommend using a white background", and the first image should "use a high-quality background".

What this means in practice

The main image on TikTok Shop is close to Amazon's: the product, from the front, on pure white, with nothing added. The difference that catches sellers is the ban on placeholders and digital renderings, so a 3D render, a design mockup or a "coming soon" tile cannot stand in for the real product.

The gallery is square and capped at 9 images, each at least 600 x 600 pixels. TikTok's listing quality model sorts listings into three tiers: Poor, where "the listing needs significant improvements"; Fair, which meets "essential quality standards but [has] room for improvement"; and Good, "a high standard of listing quality". Five or more distinct, high-resolution images of the main product is part of reaching Good, so fill the slots with different angles, scale and use rather than repeats.

Colour variants deserve care. TikTok asks you to avoid one base photo with only the colour or clothing changed in editing software, which rules out recolouring a single shot for every colourway. Photograph each colour you sell, then build scenes from those photos.

In PicBarn, put your own front-view photo through the pure-white main image tab for slot 1 and use scenes and try-on for slots 2 to 9 as gallery images; skip the recolour tool for TikTok Shop colour variants and start from a real photo of each colour instead.

Questions

How many images can a TikTok Shop listing have?

Up to 9, in a square 1:1 ratio. TikTok's listing quality guidance asks for five or more images of the main product for a Good listing.

What is the minimum image size on TikTok Shop?

600 x 600 pixels. The listing quality page asks for a main image above 600 x 600, so export larger, for example 1200 x 1200, to stay sharp.

Can I recolour one photo for each colour variant?

TikTok asks sellers to avoid using a single base photo with only colour or clothing changes applied in editing software. Photograph each colour instead.

Can the main image be AI-generated or a render?

Digital renderings and placeholders are not allowed, and the main image must be a front view of the physical product on pure white. TikTok's AIGC rules allow AI in listing images only when it accurately represents the real product; use AI scenes in the gallery.
